Teaching & Research Mentoring
Research mentoring of doctoral / graduate and undergraduate students:
Teaching undergraduate courses as a Lecturer (UCR, 2016-present) and as an Assistant Professor (LSU, 2007-2012):
- Mentoring undergraduate (UC Riverside) analysis of ancient DNA (aDNA) from Iron and Bronze Age human remains (Tall al-`Umayri and Khirbat Iskander, Jordan) by infrared sequence trace files editing, human mitochrondrial DNA alignment with modern, Neanderthal, and Denisovan humans, phylogenetic analyses with distance, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference algorithms.
- Mentoring undergraduate (UC Riverside) forensic and physical anthropological reconstruction of human remains, determination of minimum number of individuals from an early Bronze Age portal dolmen (Tall al-`Umayri, Jordan) with Dr. Lee Greer and Kristina Reed: Sorting, matching, and fitting cranial, maxillary, mandibular, and dental fragments of Bronze Age human skulls, sorting of bone fragments, reconstruction of skulls.
- Serving on doctoral committees (UC Irvine), particularly advising graduate students on genomics and presentation of research.
- Mentoring undergraduate students working with mitochondrial DNA extraction, amplification, sequencing, and phylogenetic analyses of reptiles from SE Asia (LSU) and also on human ancient DNA (aDNA) editing and analysis.
